Cologne Christmas Markets

I couldn39t head back to the Southern Hemisphere without one last visit to some of my favourite things in the world Christmas Markets After much thought I decided on German Christmas markets this year since that is where they started and they definitely didn39t disappoint This trip was another weekend trip and we met up with our friends Sarah and Steven. There are seven Christmas marke

Cologne

Today was the first day we made it on time to the city we were supposed to be. No stress and no 39right on time39 moments we arrived in Cologne at noon and took a walk around town to find some food. We found some girls already standing at the venue. Not what we were planning in any way.Apperently we went the wrong direction because where we were was no food or cafe to find. Finally we bo

Today is the Day

We will be flying from Frankfurt directly to Buenos Aires. It39s a 14 hour flight. We will let you know how fun that was when we get there. Love Sophie Grim

This is the Beginning

We will be traveling from October 6th until December 30th and this is the route we have in mind.

Farewell to the Rhine

OUR LAST HURRAH ON THE RHEIN As we started South toward Mainz and Wiesbaden our first stop was Eltville where we were able to tour the ruins of a large agricultural estate a Roman latifundium that is now the 39old town39 that was granted town status in 1332. Part of our tour included the picturesque ruins that are the remainder of the Burg. We then headed for Wiesbaden where Stellplat

Tag des offenen Theaters

Paderborner sind von ihrem neuen Theater begeistert. Ein Rundgang durch das Haus in vielen Bildern.

Dusseldorf Waking from Eurovison Slumber

DusseldorfI was in Dusseldorf at the beginning of the year for a typically cheesy European celebration. Yes that of Eurovision. I didn39t however see much of what the town has to offer so it was a pleasant feeling to be back there once again several months later. The first time I was here I saw a lot of the train station the football ground and many ecstatic Eurovision fans. That39s t

Aachen The Stairway to Heaven

AachenThe most beautiful cathedral in the worldSo for most people myself included Aachen is not a town on their list of must see destinations. Most will not even have heard of it.I39m going to do my best now to persuade you just to take a morning stop off there. You don39t need much longer but honestly you won39t regret it.Aachen is an understated city found on the boarder of Germany

On the Rhine to Cologne

Well we settled into our wonderful cabin on board the Alemannia and got to know the ship in the first 48 hours by being introduced to the crew at the captains dinner party. It was also at this time that we came to realise that we were the only English speaking couple on board and Alemannia is another name for Germany No problem as we teamed up with a wonderful Germain couple Klause and Elizabeth

Koln Cologne

Lou gave the boys some light training then we set off on our kind of training... To Koln or Cologne as we know it.A couple of train changes and we were there. The main train station Hauptbahnhof reminded me of a 194039s movie as a place where women said their tearful goodbyes to loved ones. One expected Marlene Dietrich to emerge around the corner at any moment.Koln is also the home of the co

Chatter

The food is so cheap over here. Tonight five of us ate at a local steak house which served big meals. The 3 men all had beers and the full bill was still under 100 euros. There is a small shopping centre which I wandered about but nothing much caught my eye except some lovely Steiff toys. I wondered if I should be buying family heirlooms or not. There was also a brand of quality plastic farm anima

Ich bin krank sob

Not much to report today as I have been confined to bed and silence. due to my laryngitis. It is now 730pm I have slept most of the day away and the antibiotics are taking effect and I feel almost human again. Everyone has gone to the games against Borussia Monchengladbach Youth Teams so I have had peace and quiet. Travelling with 24 boys can be quite draining.UPDATE The boys WON 41 What

A Bundesliga experience

At 3pm we piled onto another bus to take us to a Budesliga game Schalke V Boruusia Monchengladbach. It is in a town named Gelsenkirchen. This was considered a 39local derby39 meaning highly competitive local teams. We passed by rolling farmland and a few small villages on our way into Dusseldorf crossing the mighty Rhine River several times.Dusseldorf is very industrial with a huge coal min

Farewell beautiful Landshut

Today we left beautiful Landshut to travel to Wegberg. It was a long boring trip of approximately 8 hours. I was feeling quite ill and most of the way I dozed on and off. Along the way we saw hundreds of trucks parking in bays as they are not allowed to travel on Sundays. At one rest stop we had to pay 70 cents to use the toilet. I discovered later you got 50 cents refunded if you spent money in t
