The big chill

One of the reasons we had been looking forward to visiting La Paz was that it has a reputation for nice food only ever a good thing We stayed in a fantastic hostel which even served eggs for breakfast a luxury worth its weight in gold We made an effort to eat somewhere different each night and one Indian one Middle Eastern one Mexican and a ridiculous Pizza over 1 meter across later we fe

La Paz Death Road and Farewell Elliot

Once we arrived back in La Paz we had a few hours to kill before check in. We took the morning early by hitting up a cafe or 2 and checking out the Coca leaf musuem. After we settled into the hostel and had a shower we headed back to check out a few more sights in La Paz. The next day we woke up early and headed to a local hostel where we head breakfast and prepped for a day of biking death road.

Putting things into perspective...

We had a fantastic last meal in Argentina by blowing the budget and having an enormous meat platter sirloin steak marinated chicken breasts sausage chorizo veal short rib Pork loin and a single roasted pepper between us for vitamins of course The following morning with gargantuan stomachs we hopped on our coach and made our way to the Argentina Bolivia border at La Quiaca. Due to excellent

Flamingos Geyers and Hot springs on route to Bolivia

We were picked up early from our hostel in San Pedro de Atacama armed with 10 litres of water and set off for our 3 day trip across Chiles atacama Desert to Bolivias Salt Flats. There were 4 Jeeps in total on our trip with 6 eager tourists in each. We got lucky as our 4WD comprised of 3 couples one from up north one from Jersey us and Felix our friendly but strict driver whom was very exper

La Paz Salt Flats Red Lagoons and Red Wine

We arrived in La Paz around 10pm after our bus ride from Copa. We jumped in a taxi to our hostel which surprisingly was very nice Hot showers double bed wifi tv and great buffet breakfast The next day we spent around La Paz doing a bit of shopping exploring plazas churches and parks. Elliot39s love for saltenas grew and he also discovered a magical thing called a pizza cone. The next d

Riding the World's Deadliest Road

It39s just riding a bike you never forget. Right That39s what I was telling myself on the way to the starting point to the 64km mountain bike ride down the World39s Deadliest Road just outside La Paz Bolivia. However remembering to ride a bike in your driveway is a little different than trying to remember on your way down a road that is at its narrowest is only 10ft wide with 800 Ft

La Paz a big bowl with lots of bowler hats

I spent four days in La Paz Bolivia after taking an overnight bus from Uyuni that had to be the worse bus ride of my life and I have had a couple in my short lifetime. We were literally bouncing out of our seats for the first 6hrs of the 12hr trip. A bruised tail bone was my gift from that ride. Arriving in La Paz you realize it is built on the side of a mountain that forms a large bowl with t

Bolivia The "Other Bit"

Bolivia The Other bit La Paz is a shithole I hate it The highest airport in the world 4058m the longest runway in the world due to the obvious blah blah. Originally we decided well stick together until after Christmas but Christ and Gertrude Gareth decided to head to Peru earlier because well no one wanted to be stuck in La Paz over this time. I also dont blame them for t

Why not to burn llama foetuses on a mountain

Having gone to bed ridiculously early last night I woke up feeling hugely refreshed. Unlike yesterday I had a huge appetite and was ravenous when I went up to the bar for breakfast. I hadn39t planned to do very much today and leafing through lonely planet whilst having breakfast confirmed that I had already seen much of La Paz. The only thing that I had considered doing was buying was some wat

The morning after the night before

The unmistakable feeling of stomach churning nausea and pounding headache that can only be associated with uncontrollably mixing your drinks was passing over me in waves this morning. I felt like whatever slight movement I made was going to make me violently sick. It was safe to say that I had had a pretty good night last night and my body would pay for it heavily today. I got out of bed to find m

T'was the night before Christmas

I was up early this morning and got myself organised with almost military precision. I had promised Tina that I would Skype her this morning as we hadn39t spoken in a while and the time difference meant it would be Christmas Day in Australia. Having scoped out local Internet cafes that had video capability which are few and far between in Bolivia I headed to the closest one which opened at 1

The Worlds Most Dangerous Road

It was a little overcast this morning when I got up but most importantly my headache had gone. I nudged Harrison and Tim as I went to grab a quick shower to make sure they were both up and ready for the off. We were leaving early this morning to take on what had been dubbed the Worlds Most Dangerous Road. The thin stretch of unsealed road ran along the mountainside from Chuspipata to Yolosa and

The biggest market in the world

I woke up feeling much better this morning after a fairy solid nights sleep on the bottom bunk. The shortness of breath and elevated heart rate seemed to have disappeared overnight but I was still rather careful when I got up. I felt a lot fresher after I showered and when I returned to the dorm there were more people moving in. Harrison and Tim had just arrived from the South of Bolivia and li

Bolivia oh Bolivia the good bit

Bolivia The good part Following Peru it was crossing into the infamous Bolivia. The poorest country in South America and they have been at war at some point in time with all their neighbours. Chile stole a part of the coast line from them and during the 1930 they were at war with Paraguay who took a piece of land that was believed to have oil to date none has been found. Wars make so muc

Feeling "Alive" in the Andes

Spectacular awe inspiring incredible beautiful these are just a few words that come to mind after just finishing a three day drive through the Andes for a second time. This time it was from San Pedro de Atacama northern Chile to Uyuni Bolivia by 4x4. No pavement just dirt roads only fit for a 4x4. Specifically Toyota Landcruisers looks like Toyota has wrapped up Bolivia from what I saw. To

Killing time

After a horrendous nights sleep I got up at around 7.30am. It felt like I had turned over to see what the time was almost every other hour last night and it wasn39t because my dorm was next to the main road. I dragged my body out of bed to the other end of the hostel to wake myself up with a shower. After I had fiddled about with the shower trying to get the temperature between scalding and

Atlanta Web Design

This gives you the freedom to get the company of choice. To get the best then it is best that you look into the actions that the company has been able to take care of. It is ready to get quality

Salar de Uyuni Bolivia

The tour through the Bolivian salt flats the Salar de Uyuni was an experience like no other. In the three days it took us to go from Uyuni Bolivia to San Pedro de Atacama Chile we saw volcanoes lagoons deserts salt flats cacti and flamingos. We saw some of the most surreal landscapes and were at some of the most extreme points in South America. We started off by going to the Train Graveya

Lake Titikaka

After much thought and calculation of bus times Chev and I decided that Bolivia was calling our names after all. We hoped on an overnight bus to the Bolivian town of Copacabana on the shores of Lake Titikaka. We made it to Bolivia without much ado although we arrived a bit late and had to change buses three times. We met with some nice backpackers and joined them for a quick walk around Copaca
