From 100 Mile House to Whistler
We started today with a 5 km run through 100 Mile House. Strangely the newer houses in the area reminded us of Florida. The weather definitely didn't. It was 5 degrees when we set out. The terrain was so hilly we heated up quickly enough. There is very little to see in this town we asked at the hotel desk and they were stumped so we took a short drive around before leaving. It was another long d

Miette and Maligne
'We spent Monday night in Jasper at the Pyramid Lake Resort a rustic group of cottagelike two storey walkups overlooking a tiny clearwatered lake. The room was ordinary but the service and the breakfast were exceptional. The dining room had cathedral ceilings with floor to ceiling windows and a huge fieldstone fireplace.Tuesday morning we visited the Miette Hot Springs. On the way we saw a gro

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
We were very fortunate Sunday afternoon. As we drove along the Bow Valley Parkway the more scenic alternative to Hwy. 1 the sky began to clear. We passed a few interesting points along the way. Among them a memorial for Germans and Austrians held in the internment camps during the first world war and used as slave labour to build the roads in Canada's first national park and the Great Divide
Sunday morning in Banff
My arrival back at the hotel room woke Mark and Sam. We decided since it was raining to try taking a scenic drive to Bow Falls in hopes that it cleared up. We were in luck. The rain stopped long enough for us to explore the falls and walk the path heading upstream.Bow Falls is the last large drop in a long series of rapids and falls. We walked upstream for a half km or more and did not come to th

This morning I Woke up at 4.15 am. Probably because I slept too much already. I think I slept for 10 hours including the long nap straight after i checked in. lol. I felt fresh in the morning not wanting to waste the luxurious one night stay in this hotel. I went to make use of the facilities. I went swimming around 7am the pool was kinda small as to what I initially expected didn't do much swi
Early Morning in Banff
I woke up early on the second day. Mark and Sam were still sleeping so I slipped out for an early morning walk down the main street before the shops opened and the tourists arrived. Unfortunately it was cold only 2 degrees and raining. We started the day at Brian and Irene's in Brandon where we headed to breakfast at Tim Horton's This is the most popular fast food eatery in Canada. More popular than McDonalds. They are most known for coffee and donuts. The food was great We tried blueberry fritters cinnamon rolls apple fritters and a Boston creme. From there we headed off across the prairie to the Province of Saskatchewan.
Jasper to Vancouver in Via Rail Economy
Like the train to Jasper the schedule is designed so that the most spectacular part is traveled in the day. So this time we left in the afternoon. And I was gratefully assigned a seat to myself as were most other single travelers in the car. There was also an incredible amount of leg room between the seats. But no amount of leg room can make for a comfortable nightrsquos sleep. The night
Vancouver to Jasper by Via Rail Solo
75 off Via rail tickets. Who could resistI drove through the Rockies in the fall of 2008 while seeing the Rockies in all four season is on my wish list this trip was entirely about the rail journey.
