No hurry to get up today so morning tea was taken whilst in ones pit finishing off a very good book and talking to family on Skype.Once up and had breakfast we walked into Hanmer centre and found the Spa building along the main street. In we went and purchased entry to the S

A Tale of Two Cities Part 2 Mother Nature names her price
Two nights safely spent in Christchurch three nights four...still I haven39t felt a single quake or aftershock. I39m not sure if I39m more relieved or disappointed by this. Obviously I don39t want to be in a devastating earthquake anymore than I wish such terrifying aftershocks and damage on the already frayed nerves of Cantabrians. But a small part of me would like to feel the groun
Kayaking Abel Tasman
Kayaking Abel Tasman Park today.....started out in Marahau with Abel Tasman Marahau Sea Kayak Company........our instructor Hanna was brilliant.......a pretty thorough briefing on safety etc. turned out to be essential The seas where from the south which meant they are not calm Every picture you see on a brochure or magaizine is bullshit lol......anyway out we went from Marahau to Observat
From Picton to Kaiteriteri
Driving Day...........drove from Picton to Nelson and then to Kaiteriteri............just outside of Abel Tasman National Park. Spent a bit of time on the beach in Kaiteriteri explored the area and then found a great deal at a B B in Tapu Bay at Mark Taylor39s house.........great guy with lots of stories........he39s definitely a country boy..lol.......but a gem.......every night we stay

Knobbing about
Doing the peninsula hikeThe only hike outlined in our Lonely Planet is the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway. We drive to the end of the main road where the buildings turn into shacklike creations and then drop out entirely for a brief stretch and the road ends in a parking lot. We quickly ascend up the cliffside and look back toward the mainland. The flat east coast plain breaks abruptly up
now in north Island again

Since our last update we visited glacier country in south island walking to the faces of fox glacier and Franz Josef glacier. both really spectacular especially Fox. after the glaciers we travelled back over to the east coast via arthurs pass stopping at a few places along the way and even stayi
Psyko Bird
Blowing away the cobwebsmigraine...
The 31st of January wasn39t the best day ever. I woke up feeling decidedly dodgy for no good reason. The weather was hot and sunny it39s not like I39m in a horrible town and it39s not like there was nothing to do. Yet I woke up barely able to lift my chin off the ground. Not because yesterday39s massage had crippled me far from it I feel far more able to move around than I hav
In Peril on the Sea
Oh Lord hear our pleas from those in peril on the seas I never thought I would right those words when talking about our adventures cruising on the seas of the world.ltspangt What an adventure we have just had in the Tasman Sea.ltspangt Not the kind of adventure you dream about or even want to experience.ltspangt A typhoon and a fireWe sailed from Hobart Tasmania on a beautiful evenin
Arriving in New Zealand
Had a great trip with no jetlag so far From the plane we got our first views of the Land of the long white cloud. I can see why a narrow strip of land with light cloud on top the whole way into Auckland. It looked beautiful. Green fabulous beaches tiny islands and surrounded by sea.Looked a bit like Scotland from the air rolling hills. But close up the vegetation39s jungle. Hardly recogni
It's christmas but not as we know it...
So christmas in the southern hemisphere is... strange. It39s nice it being warm and all although as our luck would have it it actually wasn39t that warm in Sydney or Auckland in December but the christmas decorations fake snow and santa hats are just not right with blue sky. Even when the sky was grey wandering round christmas lights in shorts and t shirts was a very surreal experience
South Island
The time spent on the South Island of New Zealand flew by just as fast as the time spent on the North Island. However some of the lengthier bus rides through the mountains had proved to be a bit challenging . I thought that I had gotten over my motion sickness but apparently the windy roads have proven to be too much for me I am sure my friend Kim can attest to how pleasant I am when car si
A summary of New Zealand.
This seems slightly pointless writing this whilst back at home in England almost a week since me and Chloe finished our New Zealand trip but I just feel I should finish the blog properly by telling you all about New Zealand.Where to start You39ll be glad to hear that I39m not going to reccount it day by day as that would be longer than either of our attention spans can handle. Our favourite
Queen Charlotte Track
Brilliant day of sunshine to start our adventure to do part of the Queen Charlotte Track......started at Ship Cove to Resolution Bay.......about a 15km hike........ended up at Furneaux Resort.....it39s about an hour by water taxi to start and then an hour or so return depending on stops.......breathtaking regardless.......
As One Chapter Ends Another One Begins
Its true. Weve almost been here for a year. I really cannot believe it a year of living out of our van and oh how Ill miss VanDemon. We met the father of the women who sold us our van and he was mentioning that VanDemon was an early explorer of New Zealand and the reason they named the van after him our van is a true exploring machine.Weve spent some time doing all kinds of things in
