The Long and Short Goodbye

ltspangtltspangtltspangtltspangt Well this is it my last official night in 10b Kleine Wende Kleinmachnow. Unofficially due to visa problems and otherwise I39ll be back before too long but that doesn39t mean the era hasn39t ended. This means that this is essentially my last blog post from my German semester. There39s a lot I didn39t get to I suppose there was anot

An Idle Moment in Germany

Well now let me see it39s been a somewhat travel free weekend but I39ll give some thought into updating before I return to paper writing hell. I think the topic for this weekend has to be well a very strange experience. I39d spent some of my time on my weekend hanging out with Nick and Mitchel a pair of Australians I39d met in Krakow which did mean a chance to see another part o

No more Nathan

This morning I woke up to a girl slamming her locker in my room but I was kind of glad because it got me up early so I could tackle the day ahead of me my time traveling is sadly now coming to a close. I went down to have a relaxing breakfast which also happened to be free I ate slowly and was looking over my map of Frankfurt to get a plan of attack for the day when lo and behold Aussie Nath

Onto Germany

I had gotten the worst sleep ever People were coming in and out all night there was road work outside and it was so hot the windows are open and it was just overall so noisy. I finally did get a bit of sleep and I was so tired in the morning that I didnt hear my alarm go off. I woke up to some girl poking me holding my iPod as the alarm is going off oops Sorry I was totally that p

Day 21 Tuesday Frankfurt visiting the Dolans

Hello again from Germany. Janet says that she does not have a cold but is just suffering from allergies probably triggered by the variety of pollens during yesterdays flower show. Regardless she is not feeling too well today so we are taking a day off from touring and just having a final day to visit with the family. There are lots of places that we could go see but we will just have t

Day 20 Monday With the Dolans in Germany

Hello from Germany again. We continue to have a couple of days to visit the Mike Sue Dolan. We are still doing tourist items but also have some family time too.We slept in today and then had another good breakfast. Mike took David to run some errands with the first one being a trip to the bank to get a fist full of Euros from the ATM. Then we went to the train station to buy a couple of ti

David did wake up once during the night because he could not feel the ship moving but dismissed it and went back to sleep. We had a good day visiting with Mike Sue and their girls. Mike cooked a nice breakfast and then we gave Maggie the First Communion presents which

"All We Are is Dust in the Wind" Potsdam

Today we hit Potsdam to see some castles. After the longest weekend ever we were all pretty much beat but we managed to drag ourselves out of bed again at 7 AM to get ready to go. It was a 45 minute train ride to Potsdam and we stored our stuff in the station lockers and got some AWESOME gelato before setting out towards Schloss Sanssouci Castle Sanssouci. The park and grounds were HUGE. We wal

Planes Trains and Automobiles

October 2 and 3After such a great time in eastern Europe in 2008 I am back for another trip this time to countries a little further south than the Baltic countries I visited before. After changing planes in Iceland I landed in Frankfurt. To save about 150 in airport taxes I had agreed to pick up my rental car in downtown Frankfurt instead of the airport. It seemed easy enough while checking it

Brandenburg an der Havel

Brandenburg an der Haveltesting...will finish this later.

Sachsenhausen

Not nice is how I would describe concentration camps yet with my visit to Sacsenhausen it was my fourth one so I can't say that they don't have some kind of attraction for me. What that attraction is I'm not quite sure whether its seeing up close the evidence of how sick humans can be the organised efficient cold and ruthless manner in which the Germans carried out their genocide or quite

"Just a drink a Martini shaken not stirred"

So lucky we were. After making rafts and biking in the Swiss countryside we were then sent to Frankfurt to attend ASG's AustriaSwitzerlandGermany Financial Summit 2011. This is a bigger event as this pools the resources from the 3 European countries. Promotions for this even have been consistently creative. We were addressed as Secret Agents who receives mails and updates from Ms. Moneypen

Human Inhuman Sachsenhausen

My trip to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp had by far the greatest impact on me of any of the sites I have seen thus far. I was planning on spending about two hours but ended up there for four and a half and realized that I had to leave since the sun was setting. Touring the site I kept switching from being angry to sad to wanting to vomit. I have discussed with those who have also toured co

Beginning of my Journey

I started my trip by flying into Frankfurt Germany where I used a european underground for the first time and managed to find my hostel which ws situated in the redlight district. I was quite nervous about this because I had no idea what I was getting into however it really wasnt so bad...in act I would say vancouver is way more sketchy. The only difference is that dildoes are advertised thru g

Putting Airport Security to Shame

On the way to Heidelberg we stopped in Frankfurt for a visit to the European Central Bank. One of the great things about the Eurovision trip is how well organized and planned it is. Our visit to the ECB is a good example of this as it broke up a very long bus ride with something interesting and worthwhile and made it so a whole day wasn't lost traveling. Frankfurt is a very modern city with a b

a germna P.s.

There are a number of people who enjoy going to public places taking their clothes off. Yes I know this isnt uncommon in the world but in Germany it is a bit like breast feeding in public it is a natural and seemingly wonderful thing but it has a similar impact to a solar eclipse...... Be very careful to not inadvertently look at it without your dark dark dark glasses. They actually appear

Potsdam July 5 2010

From Berlin we started our driving journey across northern Germany beginning first with Potsdam then to Leipzig later that same day.Settled originally in the Bronze Age and chartered in 1345 Potsdam was left in relative obscurity until 1660 when Frederick Wilhelm I Elector of Brandenburg made it his hunting capital. Later it became an official residence of the Prussian royal family until

3 and home

Our last full day woke up in Dinkelsbuhl and came to find that it wasnt 38enight it was 38epersonnight. Jeremy then broke it down by how much we paid per limb and per digit. We walked around a bit and somehow found our way back to the big cheese plate for another dose of happiness before leaving on the 1240 minibus which ended up costing us nothing for an hours ride nice.

Potsdam and a handball game

Having bought tickets to Germanys AllStar handball game with a friend. I found myself back in one of my favourite european cities Berlin for the weekend. I got to Berlin really early after no more than half an hours drowse due to a Spanish wine testing the night before that led from one thing to the sun rise. Due to this I wasn't much company for my hostess nor newly acquainted Australian fr
